Honey Garlic Pork Chops

Sweet, garlicky, and full of savory soy sauce, what else does a good meal need? I’ve shared some honey garlic recipes with you guys in the past, but these pork chops are some of my absolute favorites. Perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful pork chops, all cooked in a finger lickin’ sauce, you’re about to meet your new favorite dish.

Truth be told, I’m kind of old fashioned when it comes to pork chops, at least I used to be until a couple years ago. In my family we always used to cook them forever, literally for at least an hour in the oven. Times have changed, and I’m here to show you how to cook perfect pork chops that are juicy and flavorful!

Grew Up With Dry Pork Chops?

There seems to be this long held common belief that in order to safely eat pork, you have to cook the dickens out of it. That means you’re losing all the flavor and moisture from your meat and may end up with a protein that is similar is texture and flavor to the sole of a shoe. But fear not, new policies and practices in pork handling means we can cook up better cuts of meat.

What Temperature Can I Cook My Pork To?

The USDA has recently announced that rather than cooking your pork to an internal temperature to 160F, you can now cook those chops to a medium rare temperature of 145 F. That doesn’t mean that you have to by any means if the thought makes you squeamish. But it’s great to have options!

Ingredients In Honey Garlic Pork Chops

overhead shot of ingredients needed for Honey Garlic Pork Chops
  • Butter and olive oil – We’re going to heat these up over medium heat, olive oil will raise the smoking point of our butter so that we get all that brown butter goodness without any of that burnt butter bitterness.
  • Pork – Pork chops, boneless.
  • Garlic – We’re using a lot of fresh garlic today but if jarred is all you have on hand keep in mind that 1 1/2 teaspoons equals 1 fresh clove.
  • Honey – I love to use honey to add sweetness to our dish, it will also cook down and coat our chops perfectly.
  • Soy sauce – Will add some salt and umami flavor to our dish as well as some depth in color. Look for low sodium.
  • Parsley – Fresh and chopped up finely.
  • Red Pepper Flakes – For a little bit of heat. Feel free to add as much or as little as you like.
  • Seasoning – Salt and pepper.

How To Make Honey Garlic Pork Chops

Detailed measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.

  1. Brown the pork: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides. Add the pork chops to the skillet and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes until the pork turns golden brown. Flip and season with more salt and pepper, and cook for another 4 to 5 minutes or until the pork is fully cooked through. Transfer the pork to a plate.
  2. Form the sauce: Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter and when the butter has melted, stir in the garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook the garlic for 30 seconds or until aromatic then stir in the honey and soy sauce. Cook for about 1 minute or until the sauce thickens a bit. Remove from heat.
  3. Finish the dish: Add the pork chops back to the skillet, then flip each piece to fully coat them in the sauce. Garnish with parsley and serve.

What to Serve With Honey Garlic Pork Chops

My favorite way to serve them is over creamy mashed potatoes. You can also try:

  • Polenta
  • White Beans with Bacon and Herbs
  • Italian Parmesan Roasted Potatoes
  • Old Fashioned Green Beans
  • Lemon Orzo with Asparagus
  • Macaroni Salad

Still Unsure About How To Cook Your Pork?

I highly suggest getting yourself an instant read thermometer! You can use it with any type of meat, breads, oil, etc. It comes in handy almost every day for me. If you prefer cooking your pork more than 145F, that is totally okay. It’s your dinner after all!

Tips For Making The Best Honey Garlic Pork Chops

This is the best way to transform simple every day ingredients into something really special. You won’t have to spend so much time and money at the grocery store to have a wonderful dinner. This recipe is also very versatile and can be customized to suit your preferences!

Here are some tips to make sure you get the best results:

  1. Pat them dry with paper towel first. This will ensure you get a great sear.
  2. Pork chops cook quickly so make sure to not overcook them. To properly cook them, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature, don’t rely blindly on cooking time. Make sure the thermometer reads 145F to ensure your chops are fully cooked and still nice and juicy. Cooking time can vary based on the thickness of the pork chops.
  3. Let your chops rest for about 30 minutes on the counter before cooking them so they come to room temp. This will ensure they cook evenly on the inside and the center reaches the perfect temperature.
  4. Let your chops rest for at least 10 minutes after they come off the skillet. If you cut into them too early, the juices will come out and leave the chops dry.

How to Store Pork Chops

Store in an airtight container or ziploc bag. Make sure the pork chops have cooled down before storing them. They will last 3-4 days in the fridge or 2-3 months in the freezer. To reheat, you can either heat on the stovetop in a skillet over medium heat or in the oven at 375F. Keep in mind that reheating cooked pork will cause it to dry out and it is best served fresh.
