Meet Brody!

Poor Brody found himself, at the age of seven and testing positive for heartworm, in an overcrowded shelter. When shelter workers sent out a plea for this boy, All Shepherd Rescue stepped up and took him. Thanks to ASR volunteers, Brody is resting comfortably in his new foster home.

UPDATE: Brody is doing well in his foster home although he becomes anxious when his foster mom is out of the room. He is so happy to be safe again he has a bit of separation anxiety, which ASR is working to ease.

Sadly, after Brody’s first vet visit, ASR learned his heartworm infection is advanced and his heart is slightly enlarged. He has started the initial part of his treatment (30 days of Doxcycycline) and will have his first of three injections in early December. His risk of a pulmonary embolism from a clot of dead heartworms is much higher due to the level of his infestation. ASR does the conservative treatment of 3 injections to allow HW+ dogs the best possible chance for a full recovery.

Brody will need slow walks and very restricted activity while he is going through his heartworm treatment. ASR estimates the treatment will take about 90 days.
